Effortless to conceive and time consuming to deliver, Monastik has been the child project of the architectural duo, George Gavalas and Giannis Mourikis. For more than 25 years George and Giannis have been partnering in multiple projects of architecture and scenography. Their professional journey entailed a navigation across various creative and explorative fields, as an effort to comprehend and captivate the marrow of life and the essence of their Greek identity. They focused on the evolving use of matter, materials, items, forms and light, in the Athenian space and how this evolution facilitated function and evoked sentiment in each era.

Monastik Suites are the extract of this long and very personal journey of self-awareness, acknowledgement, maturity and coming to full circle, as it carries thoughts, feelings, experiences and conclusions of what determines genuine Greek philoxenia, how it can be embedded in the Athens’ urban matrix and how can a visitor feel as comfortable as to able to write their own story, create their own personal memories and follow their own paths within this atypical European capital city that is caught between the past and the present, the West and the East, the North and the South.
